One stop Preppy Shop

I have said it many times. My FAVORITE store on the North Shore is, hands down, ELLEN'S on elm! Owned by Ellen Holthaus, they are located on Elm Street in Winnetka, and they ooze of Preppiness with lines, including:

vineyard vines Johnnie-O The John Wind Signature Collection Vera Bradley Baekgaard ...and delicious smelling lotions and potions. ELLEN'S on elm also carries an array of uber cute preppy needlepoint belts and keychains from Smathers & Branson. With a few for your favorite Wharton/Penn, Auburn University, Big 12, ACC or Ivy League grads. An entire section for your Preppy baby Accessories for your lake house, like these cool coasters... Whimsical tea towels... A breakfast tray & coordinating cocktail napkins to map out your lake house's location, and fabulous frames to display your favorite captured memories. Sir Lancelot

My cousins have an adorable dog named Lance. While visiting them recently, I caught a glimpse into Lance's world & I have concluded that he definitely lives a dog's life...lucky dog!

Bibimbap

Recently, several of my cousins and I headed to a Korean restaurant in a Dallas suburb. Much of my family has lived in various regions of Asia at one time or another and this particular evening, all of us were craving a taste of the Orient. I had the Bibimbap, which is a mixed rice dish of vegetables and beef, though some people use chicken. It is usually topped off with a raw egg, which I gladly passed along to my younger cousin, since pregnancy and raw eggs simply don't mix. Bibimbap happens to be a favorite of actress, Gwyneth Paltrow, who shows us how to "mix things up" with this Korean dish using brown rice and poultry- javascript:void(0)

The Moose is Loose

Of all the animals in the world, three are tied as my favorite: the dog, bison & moose (blame it on my Native American roots). When it comes to my attire, I love almost anything with a moose on it. Several years ago, I picked up a cute little brown long sleeved moose Henley. Little did I know, that one day it would be paired with these adorable Lazy One moose lounge/sleep pants that I spotted during the Sundance Film Festival in Utah. I was supposed to be shopping for a birthday present for my nephew, David, and suddenly took a detour for a few things for myself. Lucky for me, I also came across this pair of socks during my shopping excursion. They match the pants perfectly. By the way, I ended up buying Dave a stuffed animal moose for his bed and a bunch of other moose-related items. Ironically, I thought it would be a good time to pick up this little onesie while I was at it...although I was no where near being pregnant at the time. I was smart enough to get it in red so it would be fitting for a boy or a girl. Now when the little one arrives, he & his Mommy can be all "moosed" out when it comes to lounging around the house!

Share the laugh!

A friend of mine sent this photo to me & it made me laugh so hard I nearly cried...so I thought I would pay it forward and share the laugh with you. I wish I knew the origin of this photo so I could attribute proper credit. If you happen to know, please share the details. Too adorable-

Happy Mommy's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to my gorgeous Mommy, my sister, who allowed me to "practice" being a mom on her children, my sister-in-law, who gave me addition practice with her children... and all of the Mommies who have influenced me throughout the years! This is why I will be an awesome mom at the end of this year...

JDRF GALA with Kool & the Gang

The JDRF Dream Gala has raised more than $10 million for diabetes research since 1999. This year, I co-emceed the event with culture expert and veteran youth pastor, Mark Matlock. JDRF Ambassadors present one of the live auction items, "The Faces of Diabetes" one of a kind artwork created by some of the Ambassadors and JDRF supporter, Marsha Benda. It is a mixed media on canvas piece of the children's self-portraits. A winner had the lucky key that opened this treasure chest which contained gorgeous jewelry. He made his wife very happy for Mother's Day! Dallas Mayor, Tom Leppert, spoke about the importance of research in Dallas and the state for Type 1 Diabetes and expressed why he supports JDRF as the leader of diabetic research. Here I am with some of my guests who came out to support JDRF. We were revved up and ready to hit the dance floor to the tunes of Kool & the Gang. Kool and the Gang opened to a full dance floor! And they were awesome to talk to post-concert, taking time to take a few pics after their phenomenal performance. Stay tuned for next year's incredible JDRF Gala!
