After relaxing in his window seat on the flight, Preston is finally back on the ground-and getting dizzy on the carousel as he searches for his bags. He checked into his hotel suite and with his approval of the bedroom, he also made sure the bathroom was quite suitable to his taste. With a very large jetted tub and a television over the bathroom sink, it seemed to pass the test. Lastly, was a brief once-over in the living room where a sofa, a great view, well-stocked bar and another television will provide a comfortable retreat for the week. More to come...

The beginning of the News 3 webpage reads, " I'm a 35-year-old news veteran, who's been covering health and wellness news for more than a decade. I admit I can sometimes be jaded and skeptical with an 'I've seen it all attitude.' Hmm, now there's one for you... What TV reporter in his/her right mind would admit on a website how "jaded" she can get covering a news story. Then the RED FLAG begins to wave as she continues, "When the news director John Beamer asked me to do an investigative report on the nutritional supplement Resveratrol, I had no idea that I would end up as the 'star' of my own story. But I did!" It is bad enough that many people do not hold the news industry in high regard as a trusted source for information anymore, then THIS pops up on my computer screen! This is a page of Katie Wilson, an alleged news reporter for the alleged KLMT in Sacremento, CA. Once you go to the site, you will see a drop down menu, like most news sites offering up weather, sports, etc. But if you try to access any of these, it redirects you to this ad. A nice added touch is the 60 Minutes video embedded on their homepage, as seen here

I am well aware of advertorials-advertising made to look like a news editorial, but at what point is it taken too far? It stinks for people who don't know the difference between an ad and a real news story & take something like this as the gospel truth. How much does it blur the line between selling a product and reporting a reputable story? BTW, Katie needs to remove the shades from on top of her head before stepping in front of the camera-that's Journalism 101, young lady.

Happy Birthday America! As we prepare to celebrate the nation's birthday...and more importantly, my brother's birthday... many will flock to Addison to catch the gorgeous fireworks display in the Lone Star State. As a kid, I honestly thought the fireworks were simply to celebrate my brother's birthday. After all, that's what he told me and every little girl believes all of the things her big brother tells her!! We have often snagged a spot in Addison Circle for the Kaboom Town celebration. It is a spectacular Texas celebration-after all, everything is big here! This year's 4th of July party will be held Friday, July 3rd at 5:00p until Saturday, July 4 at midnight. There will be a fabulous 30-minute fireworks display, which will be choreographed to music. Best of all is the live radio simulcast on 100.3 JACK FM.

treats from pebble hill plantation

Just up the road in my old backyard... One of my favorite cookbooks is Feast of Pleasure from the Kitchens of Pebble Hill Plantation (PHP) by Jean Hagan Johnson. When I was living in Tallahassee, Florida, covering the political scene, Pebble Hill was a nice escape from the hectic world of my crazy newsroom. Pebble Hill, located in Thomasville, Georgia, is my favorite antebellum home in the region and tours are provided Tuesday through Sunday. More than a decade ago, I was on the planning committee for the Junior League of Tallahassee's Summer Soiree at Pebble Hill. It was an amazing event! This time I brought a bit of PHP back with me packaged nicely in this amazing cookbook. Not only does it provide the most delicious Southern recipes, it also gives the historical aspect behind certain dishes, including the proper way to prepare a pork dish from hog pen to the the dinner table. You simply MUST click on the above photo and read about preparing the pig! Now I enjoy taking a tour on my trips back to the Capital City of Tallahassee, which is simply 15 minutes south of Thomasville, Georgia. Until you can make it down south, enjoy this video tour of PHP. It is so full of history, including a few historic letters that you can read online.

If you remember Richard Gere's movie, "Dr T. & the Women", you probably know that some of it was shot inside one of our most popular malls here in Dallas, NorthPark Center. This weekend, NorthPark Center will host a "Day of Beauty" on Saturday, June 27, from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm. Their cosmetics retailers have been invited to participate and showcase their specialties at various locations throughout the shopping center.

My family was among the first riders the day Metro began transporting passengers all over the nation's capital. It quickly became the second-busiest rapid transit system in the United States. My heart goes out to the families of the victims in yesterday's accident.

my summer polish

For my Facebook and Twitter friends who have asked, here is your answer. The nail color that I literally obsess over during the summer is fiji by essie. Inevitably, each time I wear it, someone will ask for the name. It is a really great beach color this summer. Recently I gifted a friend of mine with some bottles of this fabulous color and it looks amazing on her! I always thought the color was a great contrast to my skin color, and after my recent trip to the Islands, it looks even better on my ultra-tanned feet and hands. To avoid growing tired of fiji, I will mix it with essie's hi-maintenance, guchi muchi puchi or need a vacation for a hint of pink. If you can't make it to Fiji this summer, your nail color by he same name can at least make you look like you did.
